"Profiteroles" by Tricia Reichert

I am an artist because I experience the world primarily in a visual manner and I have always had a desire and need to create. I teach because I love to learn and I am excited to share that knowledge in a way that also helps others to learn.

In printmaking the attraction for me is two-fold, the serendipitous nature of this art medium, and the myriad of processes that printmaking has to offer. Light and shadow are fundamental to my work and at this time I am exploring this in my printmaking images in multiple-plate, or reduction, color relief prints.

In my portrait painting and figure sculpture I always aim to capture the energy, likeness and particularly the presence of my subjects. Soft pastel is my medium of choice for painting portraits. I am extremely attracted to the immediacy and versatility of the pigment sticks, and when they are used together with watercolor in the same painting I can achieve textures and effects that enhance the image in a unique way.

Most recently I have also been using various water-based mixed media for my landscape subjects.
